"Thank you on behalf of my family..."

Updated: Jul 16, 2020

In early April we began providing daily meals to NYC students and their families who were in need of extra support. This effort was in response to the tragic outbreak of COVID-19 which brought upon unprecedented challenges and changed all of our lives drastically.

As Coronavirus began to spread across our city with almost everything around us starting to close and unemployment rates skyrocketing, it was clear that access to food would be one of the largest and most pressing concerns amongst our community members.

We are so grateful that we had the opportunity to alleviate some of the stress that resulted from the outbreak of COVID-19 by delivering over 16,000 meals so far directly to our community members’ doorsteps.

Here are some words from community members who have been receiving the meal packages:

I wanted to thank you on behalf of my family for the food sent during this quarantine. My husband and I were out of work and after several attempts, only my husband was able to access unemployment insurance, so we were in trouble. My son Miguel waits for his SNACC food box every Friday. He knows that our meals will arrive that day. With all my heart, my family and I thank you.”

I'm a single mom who lives alone with her son. It's hard enough to do the role of a mother, father & be a teacher at home. My biggest concern during the whole COVID-19 was how I was going to put myself, a diabetic person whom is a high risker to the virus, around people to food shop for my son. Plus my depression was on a very high level due to stress. I had to help my son with his school work plus clean & cook. So by you guys providing food for us helped me BIG time during this whole ordeal. I can't thank you guys enough for what you guys done for us. I don't know how I would've managed without the service you guys provided. Thank you so much for your services & we really appreciate everything.

While we know there is so much work that still needs to be done and so many more individuals who are seeking out food resources, we are glad that we have been able to support the PS20 community for the last 14 weeks, especially during the peak of the crisis. We look forward to being able to continue to support the community through food deliveries, online programming and our virtual summer camp! Our work is never done and you can count on us to continue developing new ways to carry out our mission as Fall rolls around!

Thank you endlessly to all those who have supported us during this time and made every single one of the 16,247 meals delivered so far possible.

Stay well!

With kindness and gratitude,

Danielle Levin
