As of this past Friday (May 22, 2020), we delivered over 6,500 meals to PS20 families in-need as part of our COVID support initiative. When New York City schools first closed our team was able to commit to delivering a week or two of meals to some of the most in-need students and their families from PS20. We decided to focus our efforts on the PS20 community since we already had a strong relationship with the administration and the students through our after-school program. We understood that while the school is located on the Lower East Side, the students do not all live nearby which is an important part of the story because we are serving meals to families who live throughout Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens and the Bronx. Our reach expands well-beyond the Lower East Side.
Since we launched our fundraiser on March 30th, we have received an overwhelming amount of support from the community! This support has completely transformed our efforts. So far, we have delivered over 6,500 meals and have been able to increase the number of individuals that we are serving each week. We began by supporting about 115 people daily and we are now serving 200 individuals. It is such an honor to be able to support and serve the community during these challenging times. We look forward to continuing our support in creative and meaningful ways in the months and years to come!
